SGS Careers Fair 2024
Thursday 18th Januray 2024
As you may know, SGS is a coastal community grammar school, and we are proud to serve all our hard-working students equally and actively address issues of disadvantage. Part of our mission is to ensure young people leave school with a good understanding about a range of different career pathways and routes into further/higher education. We believe giving students the material about careers and university are of equal importance.
The event is aimed at 13-19 Year olds and students will be scheduled to attend throughout the day. We will be investing time, through our Tutor programme, with all students prior to the event to make sure they are sufficiently prepared and make the most from the event.
The following information will tell you how local employers and education providers can get involved and promote / support our young people in making career decisions and routes into different labour markets.
It would be wonderul to have as many local businesses and providers involved as exhibitors as we can! the image below shows the extent and popularity of the annual carrers fair.
The Event
The event will start from 12:00pm but we would encourage you to attend from 11:00am to set up your stalls and exhibits.
The date has been planned intentionally around our Year 11 Progress Evening and Parents / Carers will be attending the school from 4:00pm, if you can stay with us until 7:30pm I am sure our families would appreciate the time to talk in person and create some new networks.
Although we are unable to offer payment, we should like to offer you lunch and refreshments throughout the day in recognition of our appreciation.
We get many requests from different external organisations to access our Careers provision and meet our hard-working students. Accordingly, places are limited, so please can you confirm your attendance no later than Monday 6 November 2023.
How to support us
You will be allocated a stall to advertise your establishment. I would encourage you to tailor the detail of information you offer to the age and stage of the students. The information you provide does not just have to be aimed at GCSE/Post-16 choices - we believe giving students the material about careers and university are of equal importance.
In our experience students typically ask the following questions:
- how to find employment in your industry
- what your pathway was to your current role
- what qualifications and experiences they need to achieve whilst at Skegness Grammar School
- the range of salary within your industry
- what you enjoy about working in your industry
Contact
If you would like to be part in this exciting event for our students and showcase your company, please email the Headmasters PA Miss Clarke DClarke1@skegnessgrammar.co.uk confirming your attendance and the name(s) of staff that will be attending.
It would also be helpful if you could provide the school with any DBS numbers of the staff attending. If DBS checks are not required for your area of work, then we will need the full name and date of birth of the staff member and they will be required to bring some form of photographic identification on the day for Safeguarding purposes.
